Loved, but ready for more
This project brought a different kind of challenge. The homeowners already enjoyed their backyard—it was a well-loved space. But some of the finishes and details were ready for a refresh.
At the centre was a beautiful curved pool, surrounded by interlock that had simply run its course. The bones were strong—but the space no longer reflected the quality of the home or the character of the neighbourhood around it.
We set out to bring new life to the space—refreshing what had aged while preserving what made it special.
Updating without undoing
The most technically demanding part of this project came from the pool’s distinctive curved shape. Every element—from coping to interlock and patio cuts—had to follow that curve with precision, leaving little room for error.
At the same time, this wasn’t a space we wanted to start over with. Preserving the mature, established landscape was just as important as updating the finishes. Rather than clearing everything out, we carefully worked the new design around what was already there—protecting the lush plantings that gave the space its privacy and character.
That approach required a high level of care from the start. We worked closely with the homeowners to understand what they loved about their backyard, what they wanted to improve, and what needed to stay. It’s a process we bring to every project—but in a space like this, it was especially important. That shared understanding guided every decision, resulting in a backyard that feels refreshed, but still entirely familiar.
Retreat, restored
Today, the space feels like itself again—only better.
Still private, still cozy—but now refreshed in a way that makes you want to spend more time out there, whether it’s a quiet morning coffee by the pool or a slow evening outside.
The updated finishes have brought new life to the space, turning it back into somewhere the homeowners are proud to share with family and friends.
But what we love most is that it still feels like their backyard. The mature landscape, the character, the sense of privacy—it’s all still there. Just thoughtfully refreshed and ready to be enjoyed again for many more years to come.
